Unlike other LED lanterns, the Brunton Polaris illuminates the night with natural-looking light instead of the glaring, white light of a typical LED.- Superbright 3-watt LED illuminates the campsite with 95 lux; light has a warm orange glow similar to a propane lantern with mantle
- Switch between High and Low for desired light output
- Innovative reflector design eliminates dead spots in the light transmission
- Nonslip rubberized housing provides a sure grip while transporting the lantern
- Durable aluminum clip allows the lantern to be hung inside a tent or from a tree branch

Great lantern By Flashaholic from Louisville, KY on 5/14/2008 Pros: Compact, Durable Design, Good color light, Long Run Time, Powerful Light Output Best Uses: Campgrounds, Emergencies Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend The weight in the description (27 oz) is incorrect--I measured it as 15 oz. with alkaline batteries. Still probably a bit heavy for backpacking, though. I will use this one mostly for car camping. The light output is impressive--it would easily light up a picnic table or large tent. I haven't used it in the field yet, but this seems to be a great little lantern; one of the best size and weight ratio to brightness I've seen and very well constructed.
While I wouldn't characterize the light color as "organge", it is definitely more like the color of an incandescent light or propane lantern than other LED lamps, thanks to a slightly orange-tinted dome over the LED. The reflectors are roughened which gives a soft, pleasing dispersion to the beam and helps lessen direct glare when positioned at or below eye level.
The hanging hook is a thoughtfull addition as are the rubber feet on the base. While I haven't done any battery runtime tests, if you actually get anywhere near the claimed 45 hours (I assume on low and with diminishing output), that would excellent. Highly recommended.

Good run time, nice build quality, good price (more so on sale!), decent output for approx 3W/95 lumens, great lighting pattern with no annoying dropouts like so many of its competitors. I hate "C" cell batteries. Much rather it had been 3-4 "D" cells for more oomph and longer run time. Imagine Brunton coming out with this in a 200 lumen lamp that would actually light up a campsite adequately.

The Burton Polaris is just right for this. It's not heavy (3 C batteries) and takes up very little space/headroom while giving off excellent light. There are two settings, low great for when you want a little glow in the tent and high for playing a game or reading. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good tent light. I can’t comment on how long the batteries will last but I just got back from four days of camping, using it every night with no sign of the output getting weaker. Great product!
